COASTING ALONG THE COAST
San Francisco and Napa Valley
May 21st – 25th, 2006
$995.00 per person dbl. - $280 sgl supplement.
DAY ONE: Connect in Los Angeles in
the late morning from Orange County and San Diego Amtrak stations
to Amtrak’s premiere superliner,
the Coast Starlight. You will travel in your own private sleeper
although this is not an overnight trip. The Coast Starlight
features the “Pacific Parlor Car” which is for the use of sleeper
car passengers only. This rosewood paneled car has overstuffed
couches and chairs a library, a no host bar, game tables and
a large screen movie theater in the lower level. Included will
be a continental breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining
car plus a wine tasting and seminar in the afternoon. We will
travel along 130 miles of spectacular, California Coastline then across the Cuesta Grade through Salinas and San Jose.
We will arrive in Emeryville California in the evening where
Amtrak’s motor coach will take us to San Francisco’s Fisherman’s
Wharf and the waterfront Radisson Hotel for overnight.
DAY
TWO: Start the day with a two hr. narrated sightseeing
tour of San Francisco. The rest of the day is on your own.
You will have unlimited passes for the famous Trolley car and
discount coupons for the attractions and bay cruises. Overnight
Radisson Hotel.
DAY
THREE: Morning free followed by an included
lunch at famous Aliotos restaurant overlooking Fisherman’s
Wharf. After lunch
we will be picked up by private transportation to take us to
Napa Valley. We will make a stop at the beautiful “Domaine
Chandon Winery" for tasting of their wonderful Champagne.
Continue on to Napa . Late this afternoon, we will go to the
Napa Valley
Wine train where we will have a wine seminar before boarding
the Train for an elegant dinner as we travel through the beautiful
vineyards of Napa. Overnight Hawthorn Suites.
DAY
FOUR: A hot buffet breakfast is included at
the Hawthorn Suites hotel. Our next stop is at Napa’s newest
downtown attraction
COPIA. Taking the museum concept to a new fun level with interactive
seminars, wine tasting and special events. Our next stop will
be at the Duck and Decanter where we will pick up our gourmet
picnic lunch. Continue to one of the oldest and most respected
wineries in Napa, Louis Martini where, after the tasting,
you will be able
to take your glass of wine to their beautiful picnic area to
enjoy your picnic lunch. Next door to Louis Martini’s is Grgich
Hills winery for tasting then on to Trefathan for truly remarkable
wine in a beautiful setting. Return to Hawthorn Suites for
overnight.
DAY
FIVE: Hot Buffet breakfast begins at 6:00am and Amtrak’s
motorcoach will pick us up at 7:30 to take us to Martinez where
we will board the south bound San Joaquin train to Bakersfield
then on to the Los Angeles Amtrak station via Amtrak’s private
motor coach. Immediate connections to the southbound Pacific
Surfliner for Orange County and San Diego county .
