A RAIL FAN’S HOLIDAY
July 8th – July 11th, 2006

DAY
ONE: Mid morning connection in Los Angeles from
Southern California Amtrak stations to Amtrak’s thruway motor
coach that will take us to Bakersfield. We will then board
Amtrak’s San Joaquin train and travel through the vast San
Joaquin Valley to Modesto. We will be met and transferred
to downtown Modesto and the Doubletree Inn. Welcome dinner
and overnight at the Doubletree Inn.
DAY
TWO: Mid morning departure via motor coach for the 30
minute ride to Oakdale CA. Here we will board the Sierra Railway
excursion train for an exciting ride along the freight line
that was established in 1857 and operated until 1999 when it
was turned in to a delightful excursion train. We will enjoy
a gourmet lunch on board. After lunch we will return to Oakdale
and a visit to the Hershey Chocolate Factory for a tour and
tasting. Our rail excursion will continue with a ride along
the Jamestown steam train. Overnight in the Gold Rush Country
at the Sonora Inn.
DAY
THREE: Morning departure via motor coach to Yosemite Valley
which is approximate two hours from Sonora. We will have a
two hour, narrated sightseeing tour of Yosemite valley. The
balance of the day is free for you to enjoy the park via the
free shuttle that operates every 10 minutes around the park.
Late afternoon departure via motor coach to the Yosemite View
Lodge which is located just 30 minutes outside the park and
on the banks of the beautiful Merced River. Enjoy a hosted
Pizza Party tonight. Overnight Yosemite View Lodge
DAY FOUR: Mid morning departure via motor coach to Merced where
we will board the southbound San Joaquin train to Bakersfield
then by thruway motor coach to Los Angeles with direct connections
to the south bound Pacific Surfliner.
